During the day when I'm away I normally put my windows7 pc in hibernation mode(as when its on standby the fans are still turned on and create a lot of noise)

I normally turn my computer off at night before I go to be bed however sometimes I forget and in the morning I find my computer has come out of hibernation, when I am up late I find that it always comes out of hibernation at roughly 2.20am(just happened 5mins ago), this problem didn't happen with my Windows XP OS.

I've checked both avg update and windows update and neither are scheduled to run anywhere near this time, anyone have any ideas what program could be causing this or is it just a random windows7 glitch?

Thanks for your help

Is your PC on a network with others?

I have found mine comes out of hibernation within 15 mins of setting it but as soon as I take it off the network it stays in hibernation. Even with all the PC's off it still does it if plugged into the network.

It sounds like your standby/sleep mode is only working in mode S1 which just turns off the CPU. In S3 mode the computer keeps the RAM powered and turns everything else off, this is normally a setting in the BIOS but driver issues can also prevent S3 from being enabled in the OS.

It's most likely your network adapter waking up your computer as other have said but scheduled tasks such as Windows Update, Windows Defender and MCE guide updates can also wake it up and fail to put it back to sleep. You will need to google powercfg for a solution to that.

Its on a wireless network and it is disconnected from the network according to router info when its in hibernation, however i'll try your advice and change the wake up settings.

I've just set my pc clock to 2.15am and its been on for last 10 minutes with nothing unusual happening, so maybe its my imagination that it keeps turning on around this time or else the router does something strange at this time.. but i'll have to wait till tonight to see the results although i have a feeling i may just head to bed and forget about it, not worth the wait
