Hey guys

Been searching round the internet but cannot find an answer to my problem, so hoping someone here can help.

I've recently set up the HomeGroup using Windows 7 with password. It works good, and I can share files across the network.

However, it only allows me to share files within the libraries already there. I have tried to make my own library called "Coursework" for example, but it doesn't allow me to share that library as itself.

Basically I do not want to share the 'standard' libraries that Windows7, I want to be able to share my own.

I want ot be able to say, right mouse click on the desktop and share that particular folder - I dont want that data to be in a folder of another folder.... when sharing its going to become a muddle when lots of files are to be shared.

Can anyone help me out here?

thanks

So when you right click a folder on the desktop you don't get the following?

Share with: Nobody, Home group (Read), or Home group (Read/Write)

Just tested this and I can create a folder anywhere. Right click the folder and the above is available. If I share it I can then see it listed in the \\network share section of Explorer.

Maybe I'm confused, but is that not what you want?

Just to add I'm sharing Music, Pictures and Video's. And a few test folders now that I created in random places.

Ok yeh got that to work, but now facing other problems!

Computers appear on the "Network" section, but do not on the Homegroup section.

I've connected each computer (3) to the homegroup using the password, and only 1 or 2 max show up at any one time (when they're all turned on).

They all appear in the network section and I can view files that way, but I want to do it via the homegroup

Anyone know why this is happening?

I have a similar issue, with my PC and laptop. My laptop can view the PC in the homegroup page, view all the homegroup files and copy from them. However, my PC can't view the laptop. Like you, I can copy things through the network instead, but its weird that the homegroup only seems to be going one way.

That said, I looked into it just now, and in 'advanced connection settings' through the network and sharing centre, I noticed that 'password protected sharing' was enabled. I've disabled this, but my PC's not on so I can't test to see if this is the issue or not.

Hmm strange its working now?

However I've encountered another problem. :(.

It seems to be sharing all of my files - i.e; the "Admin" document (my pc is named Admin). So its sharing My Docs, My Video etc across the network section of sharing, NOT the homegroup section.

I've tried to stop sharing it but then my other 2 pc's have me dissapear from the homegroup. :S.

Anyone know? I keep "stop sharing" my files (Admin - my docs, my pictures etc) but each restart it shares again.

Anyone know how to permantley stop it sharing my "My Documents etc"?
