Hi Guys,

Just a quick question. I know the case with Vista was all the discs were the same and it was the product key determined what version of Vista was installed - is this still the case with Windows 7 as well?

Thanks

Swinnie

No :)

There is a tiny little file on the disk which determines which version to install.

You can make an iso of the disk, delete that file then rewrite it though then it will act as you say.

hopefully ok asking this here as it is a very similar question

i can get windows 7 proffesional RTM free as part of the MSDN thing with my uni. however to download the iso i need to be using a windows machine and run a .exe

would i be right thinking i could download or borrow any image and then use the serial/product key the msdn thing gave me ?

I used a Pro Retail disc to install my Student Upgrade copies of Windows 7 with no issue. I imagine the same would work for the MSDN student offer. It is basically Retail with a different license I am guessing.

I've just explored the ISO in WinRAR, however, I cannot delete the ei.cfg file. How would I go about this?

I'm assuming I will need to extract the ISO and then re-compile, but how, as I want to retain the "bootable" aspect of it?

Thanks
