hi,

i currently have 2 hard drives installed. on my 1st hard drive i have windows xp and i wish to install windows 7 on my 2nd hard drive. i have the windows 7installation files on my hard drive, problem is i dont have blank dvds to copy the file to so i cant install for a cd.

how would i go about installing windows 7 on my 2nd hard drive without burning windows 7 to a dvd?

Mount the image using Virtual Clone Drive and kick off the installer from within your existing XP installation.

another problem i have is it the 64 bit version im tryin to install so i cant run it from within xp.

is there no way i can boot up using the windows 7 installation files?

How did you end up with the installation files and no physical media?

You could do it via a USB stick if you have one (would require some tweaking though).

im a student so i downloaded it from the msdn website. i dont have a usb stick.

so im assumin this isnt possible then without burning the files to a dvd?

If it's an iso you've got then this is what you would mount. If it's not an iso then you'll need Nero or such like to create one. There are several free utilities that you could use instead of Nero, such as Winimage which is probably the most popular (although probably not the best)
