Hi

I just bought some new bits for the computer from OCUK and just put it all together, formatted the old hard drive (Which had Windows 7 32 bit) and went to install..

Some info about the problem...

I am using the Upgrade media disk for windows 7 64bit edition.

I have a CD key for windows 7 to use.

I also have my original windows CD (Windows XP Pro with CD Key)

I am installing on to my new Intel 80gb ssd drive.

The Samsung 1TB drive has been formatted by mistake while trying to fix the problem.

The Problelm:

The upgrade media requires an existing OS on the drive (I believe) and XP for some reason wont install on the SSD.

Via what path should I go about installing Windows 7 on to this system on to the SSD drive?

I am currently doing a fresh install of Win 7 on to the SSD but I seem to remember when I first installed this Win 7 disk, that it complained about CD key stuff when I finally got in to the finished operating system.

Any ideas please? Or does anyone know any useful sites?

ah im getting somewhere at last. I re-read the XP setup problem.

"Setup needs to put some files on the 1TB drive but the 1TB drive doesnt have a usable partition"

Even though I am installing on the SSD it wants to put "some" files on the old HDD - Wierd. So I stuck a partition on it and now it is allowing it to copy files on to the SSD.

ah I was reading up on a guide and it says that the win7 upgrade media checks for an existing OS BEFORE the format the HDD menu. So I should even still be able to install XP on any HDD in the machine and then boot with the win7 disk, get to the format menu, format the XP drive and the SSD and then install to the SSD....

Hmm I wonder...

...sits looking bored at bars going from 1% to 100% :(
