Im trying to install Windows 7 Pro 64bit onto a computer that has Vista Home Premium 64bit.

Im doing a custom install and it has frozen on the Copying Windows files (11%)

Ive tried cancelling the install and starting again but I get the same results.

Any Ideas?

Backup the existing files using ubuntu live cd or something and format the drive using the W7 disc

Typical culprits..

Broken Windows DVD (check that it's clean)
Bad SATA cables (swap them for new ones)
Bad DVD drive (try another drive)
Bad SATA port (switch to other ports)
Bad RAM (burn memtest iso to cd and run that to test the ram)
Bad HDD (burn HDD manufacturers diagnostic tools to cd and test it)

memtest showed no sings of errors.

I dont have any other SATA cables, nor any other DVD drives.

Another development, It wont allow me to start up vista at all. I get to a screen that says I must run a repair which I have. It says there is an error with the windows\system32\winload.exe."status: 0xc000000f" "...application missing or corrupt"

I must say when I upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion on my macbook i didn't have the slightest problem and took merely an hour to do lol

do it from the win 7 cd....when it gets to the part about choosing the hard drive, use advanced options and it's in there...

Obviously not using Adobe software which still isn't running correctly on Lion then...

Only one I use is reader which works great. I mainly use my macbook for my studies and media like music and videos. I find it incredibly intuitive and user friendly. Ill admit it lacks the wide variety of available programs but it even runs windows 7 brilliantly on the partitioned drive. Its only downside has been the graphics card which will easily handle movies and my CAD designs but isnt up to the task for games hence why I still have my PC :) And so far Lion hasn't failed me once (touch alli ;))

I was the same till my parents got me one for getting into uni now I love it. There addictive thats all I can say lol

Regardless still having problems. I sorted all my past problems by formatting the drive but now it hangs on 10% during the "Expanding Windows files (10%) ..."?

In the process of burning yet another disk with my macbook as I can no longer use my PC lol

Exhaust the options I said above, nothing more to suggest..

Maybe burn the disc at a lower speed, or try installing via USB

Finally done it!

I attempted doing through USB but as I only have my mac that wasnt a simple option so I burned yet another DVD 3rd one I believe and this time it worked I am now on Windows 7! lol
