Windows 7 Install problem.

Hi there,

I built a computer for my brother and installed Linux Mint on it. Since then, he bought Windows and tried to remove Mint and put Windows 7 on. I think he managed to remove Mint and hopefully all of its files but didn't manage to get Windows correctly installed on there, by the sounds of it. I've come home for the weekend to have a look. Now, when it starts with the installation disk in, the following message pops up:

"Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

I've tried to enter the Bios by pressing delete upon startup -which used to work- but now it just cuts straight to that message. My question is, in the computer's present state, is there any way to wipe the hard drive and reset the bios to factory settings and start again?

You help is much appreciated.

Emma

you could try a linux live cd or something similar to wipe the HDD,

also try resetting the bios by removing the CMOS battery for a little while

What make and model is the motherboard? It will say in the manual how to enter the BIOS. Chances are you've just forgotten or you're missing something.

Regarding the removal of Mint, I would use Window 7 installer to remove all partitions from the harddrive.

Once you get the Windows 7 install disk booted use the 'clean' command in diskpart to clear all the partitions. Then proceed to install Windows onto the blank HDD, it will then create the necessary partitions for Windows.
