I've been wrestling this one for quite a while, with no real progress, so I thought I'd ask the all-knowing OcUK for advice.

Here's the problem:
My housemate is currently running XP (Service Pack 3, x86) and wishes to try out the Windows 7 before paying out for the retail copy.

His specs are as follows:

Mainboard: MSI K9N6SGM-V
Hard Drive: Western Digital IDE 40GB
Optical Drive: Tried many different drives including fairly recent LG, Pioneer drives all of which meet the requirements for the install.
RAM: 1GB of DDR2 533MHz Kingston

I can get it to boot from the disk fine, but when it gets to the setup screen, it asks for a missing device driver for the CD/DVD drive.
AFAIK, it doesn't actually need the driver for the drive, but the interface it's connected to.
I have downloaded the drivers from the MSI site for the mainboard, and after a long delay, the setup displays that it can't find any new devices to install to.

I have also tried changing some stuff in the BIOS, but it doesn't seem to want to work.

Any ideas?

Burn the DVD at a slower speed and try installing again. Wasn't that the solution for people having this problem?

try downloading that testing program or let microsoft scan you to see if it detects any conflicts :)

.Have run the compatibility program, and nothing came up.

I always burn ISOs at the slowest speed possible (in this case, 1x).

Thanks for the replies, but I have solved it by using an old hard drive to boot from that instead. I copied the ISO over to the external drive using UltraISO which worked perfectly.
