Windows 7 Install Problems

Hello chaps,

Having a problem installing Windows 7, after it completes the part where it copies files, expands files etc then restarts, it breaks after the restart. BSOD just after the Windows is starting screen. Doing a safe mode boot I see it gets to disk.sys before it BSOD again. The BSOD flashes for a split second then the computer restarts so I can't see the error.

Been on Google for ages looking for the problem. An oddity I noticed in the installation is that when creating the partition to install to it also creates the 100MB reserved partition (as expected) but there is also a 0MB size unallocated space, with 0MB free. Can't delete it.

Hoping someone has seen or read about this problem and fixed it :)

Cheers :).

I had the same problem when I tried my first W7 install.

The problem, in my case, seemed to be that my HDDs were in AHCI mode in the BIOS. Following a bit of Googling, I switched to IDE mode and then it installed fine.

I'm not sure why this was happening (although I have my suspicions that you need to separately install the latest AHCI drivers during/before install). I have since completed a further reinstall of W7 in AHCI mode without any complications - The only thing that is different from the previous attempt is a BIOS update.

It can't hurt to change it, if only to eliminate it from your enquiries!

What specs are your PC btw?

Fixed it. Made a video of the BSOD with my mobile and saw the error was "multiprocessor configuration not supported". Problem with the ASUS boards apparently (I have P5WDH), downloaded a new BIOS v2901 and it sorted it.
