i cannot get windows 7 to install on my new pc.

i have tried with two different external cdrom drives.

the message i get is this:

"a required cd/dvd drive device manager is missing" etc.

apparently this is common.

troubleshooting says to unplug the usb drive, then plug back in again.
nothing.
change to a different usb slot.
nothing.
windows 7 does not natively support usb 3.0, so i tried disabling the usb 3.0 slots in the bios.
nothing.
i tried making an iso of my windows 7 disc so i could boot from a flash drive.
that didn't work either.

could it be that i haven't installed the mobo chipset drivers?

i really need help with this :(

i've seen a retail pro copy for £60.

the thing is though nightmare99, the problems i'm having atm will most probably follow me when (if) i buy windows 10.

are there any cheaper retail copies floating around.

i could try gumtree.

Any chance you can save yourself a lot of hassle and use Windows 10?
Using windows 10 "just to avoid hassle" is the worst excuse for using windows 10 ever.

Everybody needs to STOP using windows so microsoft pulls their fingers out. Dont be compliant and put up with their underhand techniques at market doctoring and data mining money milkage.

I ised to warn people not to use windows 8, then win 10 happened, and now we have that ridiculous new version of windows 10 thats fully controlled and wont even let you install anything microsoft can't milk money from, so its basically a moneymaking virus, not an operating system. And in future win 11 will be 11 times worse just because people are weak and allow microsoft to literally own them.

are there any benefits to buying a retail version over the oem version?
i'm getting reports that oem versions are not "tied" to your current mobo, with regards to activation/re-activations.

just when i think i've sussed it all, it goes all wobbly on me..)

This is just the modern day equivalent of being told to get xp to fix issues with older operating systems (also MS has already gone on record stating that there will be no more new windows versions beyond 10 ).

Also, this issue is normally due to chipset drivers the installation doesn't have or to be precise it doesn't have support for certain USB 2 chipsets and requires the drivers to be added to the image before installation can continue (unless the drivers in question aren't hidden inside of an executable file in which case you should be able to direct the setup program to those drivers when you get that message and hopefully continue on with the installation).

i'm going to be playing games on this new pc.

windows 10 has dx12.

1) is it worth upgrading for this reason alone?

2) can anyone say that they have really noticed a difference between 7 & 10?

3) even when/if i manage to install windows 7 oem on this new pc, i may not be able to "activate" it, as it is currently "tied" to my current pc.
some people say "ring them up and say my old mobo is dead" and that will work.

4) what if something goes wrong with the new pc and i need to boot up the old one to troubleshoot the problem?
because the old one has the same oem copy of windows 7 as the new pc, what will happen?

nothing good, i expect.
