Good afternoon all,

ive come to install Windows 7, this i am very pleased about, got my PC turned on, Win7 disc inserted and its stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen.

i know it hasnt crashed because i can still see the windows simble pulsating as it does.

and ive tried the RC7 client disc and now full win7 pro disc. same problem. is there something i can do or just give up and put XP on? (i refuse to recognise Vista as an O/S)

What copy are you installing? - is this a Microsoft pressed disk ?Bios are set to first boot from DVDplayer/burner? Wack any key as booting to start boot from disk? It can't be much - it would be mad to give up and go backwards to XP Windows 7 only takes around 23 mins to install
If you can install from a USB then check this out too( an ISO is needed) Get tool er:
http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html
This is somewhat quicker than using rom/burner

i know tell me about it and no, its doing the whole "windows is loading files" thing and then it goes "starting windows" where the little windows symbol forms its colours on screen and then pulsates.

from what i remember this is the presetup loading screen so it shud maybe take 10 minutes to get past this bit but it just stays on it lol. gives no indication as progressing or if its failing. its so frustrating lol

Can you post your specification as it may help to eliminate obvious problems.
Might be worth trying a different DVD/CD drive or removing some of the RAM.

unfortunately specifics are something that i dont really have, i get the initial screen saying windows is loading set up files with the black screen and the white loading bar at the bottom, it then moves on to the windows set up screen with the pulsating windows log on.

spec is: AMD Athlon X2 4200+, 4GB RAM, MSI K9N Ultra (non-sli) board, ATI x1650pro 512mb gfx. not sure what else there is to consider.

DVD burner is attached via IDE and a 200gb HDD via sata (other hdds have remained unplugged). i think im just going to revert back to XP or maybe **shudders** Vista (as my XP CD is foobar'd)

and then wait til i get my new i7 rig to install win7. oh well, was a nice thought anywaysy :)

Try removing some of the RAM and if possible try a different optical drive.
Also consider marmalades advice about installing from USB, it will be worth it in the end.

Check your RAM as already said. Try with one stick and see what happens. Then try with another if it didn't get any further. If it still doesn't work, use one stick in a different slot.

If that doesn't work I would next look at your DVD drive or the discs themselves.

I will attempt the RAM suggestion this evening, altho there was no problem with any of the RAM when it was being used with Windows XP? but will still give it a go.

There isnt a problem with the discs because when i originally attempted the install with the RC release a few months back i had the same problem and yet the disc belonged to a friend of mine who had installed it successfully :(

cant imagine it being the DVD drive? but again will whack it on the a USB and give that a shot too, altho im not entirely sure if my mobo will allow booting from USB, will have to look in to that lol

I had this problem. I removed some ram and tried 3 different disks, i finally got it intalled off one of them. (I have a legit ISO that i burned, then register the key when installed)

Have you considered searching? There have been 3 similar problems in the past few weeks at least!

I had the same problem, mine was the graphics card. The card itself is fine, it conflicts with my new mobo for some reaosn.
