I was putting together new pc (Asus Crosshair III Formula, AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition 3.40GHz, Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800, 2 x 500GB SATA) with Windows 7 64bit installation. However installation after loading files crashes with BSOD ==>> STOP: 0x0000007E. I tried also to install Ubuntu on these disks but ene up with more or less similar outcome with numerous errors of 0x000... format.

I swapped HDD around no change, changed graphic card as some suggested there may be issue with card, but made no difference. Now it seems that issue could be between motherboard or memory. I had no chance to test memory as by old machine is DDR2, but another set of memory is on the way so I should be able to determinate what is causing problem.

In mean time did any other faced same/similar issue? What you think can be the problem?

sounds like a hardware problem, did you try installing with just one stick of ram in? (it's not clear from your OP how many modules you have, if more than one it's worth a try, if it still happens then try the other stick/s)

Sorry about that, its 4GB kit of 2x2GB. I just received delivery of another kit set, so I will try at evening when I get home.

Ok, after messing little around I found out that I'm able to install and after run Windows on one memory stick (I tried both of them separately and there was no issue as long they been single). However as soon I insert the second one everything breaks down.

Your opinions?

might be worth checking for a newer bios version, also check your mobo manual to see what dimm slots it recommends for two sticks of ram, did a quik google and found this for your mobo:

MemOK! The World’s Only One-click Memory Rescue Tool
ASUS is the only motherboard manufacturer in the world to devise an ingenious tool to tackle memory compatibility-related problems. MemOK!, ASUS’ exclusive innovation takes the guesswork out of memory upgrading. In the event of a boot failure after installing new RAM, all the user has to do is press an easily accessible button on the motherboard and MemOK! will automatically load the failsafe settings needed to ensure a successful system boot. MemOK! is rapidly detects and resolves memory issues—even if bad or unstable memory is used!

no idea what this actually does, but might be worth checking your mobo manual for more details.

It does perform some sort of memory tests, but these never brought any good results (after test machine will get stuck on BIOS setup) and I had to always manually turn memory clock to 1600MHz to get them working. Here is link for the memory in any case

interesting that it's an asus board with ballistix ram, few years ago I had an asus board with ballistix (DDR1) and found that upping the FSB caused the mobo to increase the ram voltage accordingly, I had lots of instability until I reduced the ram voltage, then all was fine! Are you overclocking this system? you could also try loosing the timings and see what happens.
