Hey.

I ordered windows 7 professional from microsoft and after I had paid I got given the option to download either the .exe or the .iso file. As I'm not installing windows 7 on this PC (going to install on my new PC) - so I need to find a way to download and put onto a disc.

I downloaded the .iso file, which was around 3gb. After that I downloaded a program called "Active@ ISO Burner" and attempted to burn the 3gb file to a blank DVD disc, however I don't think it has worked.

When I look what's on the disk, it says under each file "0kb" yet, it does say the Total size of the disc is: 3.00 GB.

Bit confused, lol. Does this disc actually work? How can I test it.

you got a 4gb flash drive? - could be easier for you just to download the MS usb windows 7 installer, and put it onto that, instead of dealing with dodgy dvd burning programs.

Umm, well I was originally gonna do that but apparently you can't boot windows from the USB? I'm going to be doing a clean install on a new hardrive.

Yer, either the .iso you downloaded is corrupt or it didn't burn correctly.

Try using Imgburn instead.

You can install/boot it from usb if you want. There is a guide here. Your BIOS just needs to support boot from USB storage.

So after this is done, how do I check to see if it's actually worked properly?

You should really check the 'Verify' box in Imgburn, it will validate that it burnt correctly.

You could check the checksum of the .iso file to make sure it isn't corrupt, but first see if there are more files/folders on the new burnt disk than the screenshot you posted.

Mine looks like this - I do not know what you have got! :D

EDIT: Oh I see. You've got some ridiculous icon replacement thing going on.

Strange, maybe it's correct. Have you tried booting from it?

If it still doesn't boot, can you download this http://www.exactfile.com/downloads/ and generate an MD5 checksum on the .iso file that you're burning, from this we can tell if your download is fubared.

EDIT: they are folders :D it's the same as the pic above, just your directory icons are different, it should be fine. Boot of it and see what happens.
