Hi All,

Had this happen to me on several windows 7 installs where the machine seems to be hanging for about half a second every 3 or 4 seconds (cursor halts as you move across screen for a about half a second then carries on). In most cases I fixed it but couldn't tell you exactly what caused the issue (or what fixed it even). I have a suspicion its due to widnows update automatically installing the microsoft intellimouse software which then causes issues.

I've even notced with these machines when they are suffering with this issue its even happening on the windows logo build on startup, where you can see it halting for a fraction every 3 or 4 seconds.

Now I've noticed this on three of the last machines I've built that have been windows 7 64bit. Has anyone else come across this?

One of the machines is being really temperamental, it had the lurching issue which I seemed to fix, but is tstill not stable. Typically of course, this is the one I built for my grandparents, so its particularly awkward that its not right.

All thoughts appreciated!

Since you built these systems and they all have this issue then it's something down to you or something you are doing. What I mean is, this issue isn't normal so some choice you are making is to blame.

Indeed, I am starting to wonder if I'm the cause, but in all cases the machines were fine at first and only after they have done the windows updates did the issue arise (I usually try and get all critical updates installed as one of the first things on a new install). It just seems so bizzare that I've not been able to find any instance of this happening to anyone else (again suggesting I've done something).

It's not like I haven't happily installed hundreds of machines over the years and I'm certainly not doing anything out of the ordinary. They are all legal copies of Windows 7 home premium, the AV i tend to install is AVAST and on most of these machines they are only really running the office suite and email. I've not had any problems with my main desktop which gets re-installed probably every couple of months, but that one runs a Logitech mouse.

I don't know why I think this is mouse related, but it does seem that way, next time I see the problem I'll swap the mouse to my Logitech and see if that makes a difference.

It's so chuffing random!

Ah well, I'll try and get my grandfathers PC back and have another poke around, a fresh install seems in order.

I'll let you know if I track down whats going on....

Now that you mentioned it. My Win 7 UE has been working fine for almost a year. However up until a few weeks ago, my mouse will now infrequently freezes for just 2-3 secs before following a "critical stop" sound (particularly ingame) before it would work again.

My mouse is a USB Log MX518 with the setpoint software installed. I am suspecting it something conflicting with that. I have tried removing setpoint but no difference. This only started recently and all i can remember was windows update.

Checking eventid nothing was jumping out at me other than lots of information notification Evenit id 7036.

Sometimes my Razor mouse will just not respond when I first get into Windows. I'll wiggle the mouse and it'll just refuse to move. Do a quick reboot then it's OK. On a very rare occasion, as in maybes once a month, it'll stop mid-use (which is quite annoying). I just unplug and plug it back in.

Weird. But it's most likely just a firmware bug.
