Is there a guide out there that I can use to slipstream and strip the chaff out of a typical windows 7 installation DVD ?

I essentially want a stripped down version of Windows for use on an SSD.

Any pointers would be great :)

EDIT
For reference here's what I did

1 - Install Windows 7 x64 with 4gig or less, this reduces the foot print.

2 - Apply some of these great tips http://bit.ly/wuVgTk http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/f...3-*-Windows-7-Ultimate-Tweaks-amp-Utilities-*

3 - Remove windows features that you don't need.

4 - Throw in the rest of your RAM and your install size should be around 10gig

On my netbook I have Windows 7, Office 2010, quite a few tools, and have about 45gb free on my 60gb SSD. Pretty reasonable if you ask me.

lite version of window on SSD wouldnt make any difference really.

would make massive difference on p2 1.2ghz 256mb ram with 20GB hard drive

Windows Vista/7 are different to XP, more chance of breaking with future windows updates than XP ever had by removing components.

For this reason, I don't touch it.

Personally I wouldn't mess with it either, unless you enjoy stripping down an os and putting in the time to test it, in which case go for it :p

If you don't use hibernation then disabling it will free up some gigs on your SSD. Personally I put the swap file on another disk (in it's own partition too), W7 is very efficient with managing ram and I believe accessing the swap file is minimal so you may not see much of a performance hit moving it onto a non-SSD HDD (others hopefully can provide more info on this). Also, I change the temp directory to another HDD other than my OS drive - another attempt at reducing the load on my OS drive, and reducing fragmentation (but I think W7 is very good at dealing with this anyway).

TLDR: save space on your SSD in otherways other than stripping down the OS.
