Not sure where to post this, as most of the Windows 7 talk is here I thought I’d get a better response.

I’d like a remote for Windows 7 Media Centre. Can anyone recommend one that works? I need the remote and a Receiver, the PC is mainly used as a HTPC, I’ve already got a 360 remote, is there a Receiver to enable that to work?

Cheers

Hi there,

As far as im aware you cannot make the Xbox remote work with media centre (though a media centre remote will work with the 360)

Something like this should work http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-012-CP
Microsoft do their own version which is a bit cheaper and very hardy, I have one myself, but I dont seem to be able to find it on the OCUK site.

Hope that helps.

I'm using the Xbox 360 remote on my Vista Media Centre PC as we speak... obviously you need a compatible IR receiver though.

Could you let me know more as i didn't think this was possible? I take it there is some kind of work arround, also what compatible IR receiver have you got?

the 360 remote does look the ideal solution, and my was free with my £25 360 HD-DVD player and a HD film! (not a bad price for a external DVD drive, let alone all the rest)
Thanks

I have the full size 360 remote. I 'harvested' a MCE remote IR receiver from a dead HP Media Centre PC and the two just worked together out of the box.

As I understand it the 360 remote is a MCE remote and functions exactly the same, responds to the same IR codes etc. The only downside is if you use the on button and have the 360 and PC in range of each other, it turns on both!

I'm sure if you did a bit of research into IR receivers that are compatible with normal MCE remotes, you'll be able to use the Xbox remote.

Let me know if you need any more info.
