So what if it's got some new features...

At the end of the day all I want from my operating system is to load up, and allow me to click on a couple of icons to run applications, and browse around some directories/files...

I couldn't care less how pretty it looks, just as long as it does it.

I'm more than happy to stay with XP on my server machine... And the only reason I have Vista on my main machine is it was a new build so I put the latest OS around on there...

Windows 7? Not interested...

Thanks for letting us know

Just thought I get my thoughts out there rather than let all those requests build up!

Now! If Windows 7 has loads of animated little inane characters bumbling around the screen when you're trying to do things! Then I'll definately be interested! Cos that sort of stuff is really important and useful!

2000 would serve your purpose then, go use that :) If we want to get silly you could do everything you want on a 98SE machine or earlier, where do you stop?

Nice, I may give it a whirl, does it use the same drivers as Vista or will we have to wait for updates?
Same drivers, pretty much. Like using a 2000 driver on XP - it works, but it's not necessarily going to as perfect as one designed for XP.

Why do we now have 5 threads on Windows 7?!

So to summarise....Windows 7 does what you're asking it to do, but you won't use it because you have XP and you are happy with it.

Cool

the reason i upgraded from xp to vista is that I use my pc predominantly for gaming, therefore a lot of todays games are really benefitting from 4+gb of ram which XP won't address.

It all boils down to what you want to get out of a os, don't really feel the need for this thread as the majority of people looking into windows7 have their reasons. :)

My point is, all this talk and eagerness for Windows 7, but in reality if you have XP or Vista on your PC, what on earth is your average user going to gain from Windows 7.

Your average user needs to do the following things generally:-
- Boot up.
- Click some icons to run some applications.
- Browser around directories to view/maintain files.

How is any of this going to be changed/improved?

Sure we'll have countless new frills/options and flashy new animations, but in reality your experience/functionality on 95+% of what you do will remain unchanged. (I suspect)

I'm just being meeeeh about it :)

Agreed! That's the main reason I put Vista on my new build... And God I hate UAC btw!

My issue is, I bet a load of people upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, and infact 95% of what they do in the OS will remain absolutely unchanged...

Cheers for that. I want to let you know i probably will. Purely for my first foray into DX10 gaming which XP can only do through emulation and i cant be bothered with the set up!.

Just thought id share! :)

Its not. But if you'd look there's no Microsoft gun pointing at your head either. No one is forcing you to upgrade. If you're running XP/Vista and it meets all your needs that's fine.

But for people who use PCs for work or enthusiasts (like 99% of the people on this forum) Windows 7 will improve performance and take care of a lot of bugs and UI annoyances. So it's definitely worth the upgrade.
