I have an external monitor connected to my laptop but it will not go to the full res (1920x1080) in windows 7.
It will work on the one down 1680x1050, but when i select 1920x1080 it says its outputing it fine but the screen is all stretched and wierd and when i look at the On Screen Display it says its running at 1400x1050.
I can't figure out why its not working, I have searched all over the internet and I can't find a solution.
I have tryed newest drivers for gpu and older drivers, I dunno what it is.
If I use a ubuntu live usb the screen works perfectly at 1920x1080@60Hz.

my laptop is acer 6930g:
2.13Ghz core2duo
nvidia 9600m gt
4 gb ram
monitor is viewsonic va2213w: native resolution - 1920x1080@60Hz

Any help ocuk?

I just read the release notes for the latest drivers (Version 197.16) from nVidia...

Open Issues in Version 197.16
As with every released driver, version 197.16 of the Release 197 driver has open issues
and enhancement requests associated with it. This section includes lists of issues that
are either not fixed or not implemented in this version.
GeForce 9M Series
• GeForce 9600M GT: HD resolutions 1080p, 1080i, and 576p cannot be applied..

Could this be anything to do with the problem or should 1920x1080 still work even when 1080p will not?
Perhaps someone else could offer some advice on this.

I finally got it to work properly, it was a driver issue. After trying all the older versions of the drivers and various other modded drivers i finally found this one.
Just thought i'd update incase anybody was in the same situation.
