Very simple request here, not been successful in attempting to divine the answer using the great and mighty Google (perhaps my google-fu is weak).

I want to put the shortcut for this:
netw_shar.jpg

here:
start.jpg

where the red circle is. preferably replacing the USELESS "network" link.

so, can it be done? i expect this will require registry edits - if so, lay 'em on me.

Have you tried double clicking Network and dragging it to the desktop? I haven't got Network on my start menu but tried it with the other ones like Computer and Games and it worked.

Yep. Right-click the icon and click Networking and Sharing Centre. You can also right-click the Network link, click Properties and it will take you there.

You could always create a shortcut to the N&S Centre [http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/67814-network-sharing-center-shortcut-create.html] and pin it to the Start Menu/TaskBar.

I don't know of a way of putting your own shortcuts on the right-hand side of the Start Menu or change what the current ones point to. [one or two things I would like to put there myself! :(]

Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items.
Right click on the "Network and Sharing Center" icon.
click create shortcut. A shortcut will be on the desktop.

i know i can have it on the desktop. thats not where i want it though. :(

Can't you just quickly get to it via the network icon in your system tray?
even less convenient then having it on the desktop. :(

thats a start, but still not very convenient. :)

i already knew about that - that's what i'm doing in the interim but it looks wrong somehow.

Well, it's precisely as convenient as using one of the links on the right of the Start Menu...

But I do understand that sometimes logic just isn't enough! :p

I might make it a project to find the Registry entries that control those links and see if they can be tweaked. :p
