Windows 7 not recognising my hard drive

So ive spent the last few hours building my new computer and all seemed to be working fine, went to install windows, but it doesnt seem to be recognising the hard-drive.

Im using a Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D 1TB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache, with windows 7 64 bit.

and according to microsoft this should be compatible without any drivers etc....any ideas? :S

its connected to the SATA 2, as SATA 1 and 2 seem to be the 6GB connections on the motherboard, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are all 3Gb

Is it recognised in the bios?

Can the BIOS see the drive? Try another SATA port/cable?

I dont think so, il show a couple of pics in just a second of the bios, in mean time, il try swap the 2 cables round

and the cables swapped did nothing
cd drive working fine, just the hard drive

also, kinda seems to be making like, almost a "clicking noise"...sounds like the hard drive

If it's not showing in BIOS then something is wrong. The HDD is definitely spinning right? Recheck that it's connected to the PSU?

Its connected to the power supply yeh, using the serial ATA, and then to the motherboard using the Sata cable.

How would i know if its spinning, not able to see?

Yeh, on the bios, under main board settings, its saying SATA port 1, not present, only the cd drive is showing up :S

and its not the port, because i just swapped them and now the cd shows up on port 1....maybe the connection on the hard drive?

Have you tried plugging the HDD in the other white port?

Yeh, no show on port 2 as well, but defo sounds like its spinning

as soon as the hard drive gets power, it makes an odd "click click click" noise for a fair while
