Ok what gives? I have just installed Windows 7. Once that was up and running I installed the latest driver for my 280 GTX (191.07). I have a 24" monitor as the primary display and a 19" as the secondary. The small monitor wall mounted to the left of the 24" and thus not able to move from that side. I have set up dual monitors in the nvidia control panel. Although the 19" monitor is physically on the left of the main display the software is placing the desktop part on the right. In other words, to get the mouse on the small monitor I have to move it off the right hand side of the primary monitor.

I have thrown every toy out of the cot as I am not able to set the desktop up the way I would like it. The closest I came to a solution was to make the small monitor the primary display and then drag over the short cuts and the start bar. The only problem with this set up is that games will open up on the small monitor.
Is there anyone out there that is able to save the hair on my head before I pull it all out in frustration?

Swap the cables around at the back of the gfx card? Just an idea, dunno if it'd work or not I just know my 8600 has DVI1 and DVI2, so?... :)

Thanks for the suggestions. The first thing I tried to do was to use the mouse to move the monitor position within the nvidia control panel. when that did not work I swapped over the cable on the gpu. as soon as the software detected the second monitor it placed it on the right side again.

STOP THE PRESS, I have done it. A right click on the desktop produces a list of actions of which nvidia control panel is one. Screen resolution is also listed and once selected I was able to drag the desktop to the left side. It appears that this is now a operating system and not a gpu function.

Forget the NVidia control panel - can you not drag the monitors using Windows' own control panel? (Control Panel -> Appearance & Personalisation -> Adjust Screen Resolution)

LOL, you found it whilst I was typing. Was still right though :p

My rule of thumb with the control panels provided by NVidia, ATI et al is to only use them when it's the only option. If they duplicate functionality in Windows, just use the Windows one :)
