Hey guys,
Ive just a system builder pack version of Windows 7 from my local computer shop, they were going to install it for me but it was gunna be a week and i need it for work so i said id do it myself, foolishly thought it would be exactly the same as a retail version... apparently not. The way i understand it because ive built the computer myself im quite entitled to have this version of windows but i dont have the foggiest how to install it lol any help/advice would be greatly appriciated,
Thanks in advance
Rob

Installs exactly the same matey, the difference is that you're not entitled to any support from Microsoft, and that license is bound to that system, and not transferable to another computer.

As a Don shouldn't you technically delete this thread since he is knowingly breaching Microsoft's license terms? :p

Last time i checked you were entitled to the oem with any major pc component.

Then the last time you checked was a very long time ago.
Hardware requirement for OEM purchase ended with Windows 98 I believe....possibly Windows 2000.

Microsoft's view on this is that the OEM license is linked to the hardware and is not transferable like a retail copy. The license is linked to the motherboard - so if the board dies or you swap it out then its time to buy another copy as its non transferable.

Also unless you built the machine yourself - its not valid. Your local PC shop should have advised you on this before you handed over your cash really.

I would take it back and buy a retail version.
