When you install to Win7 oem to an already partially filled HD, are you given a chance to partition a section of the HD to use for Win7?

I'm looking at installing Linux mint 12 within a couple days and then Win7 oem as all my steam games are now sitting on an external hd making room for what I hope to be a dual OS and then move my games back.

Prices are so much more for HD's now, so I'm planning to wait till prices drop or I get some extra cash in.

TY in advance

Yup. When you choose the drive you can choose what partition it will install on.

If there's only 1 partition with programs on it, will there be an option to set up partitions?

Asking as my OS hd died and I am running linux mint to stay online.

Yup. All the formatting/partitioning/deleting options will be under the advanced part if I remember correctly.

TY very big help.

I kind of thought when my son was old enough he would be able to show his old man how to fiddle with pc's, but the guy is working hard in school with a number of girls always hanging around him (of course that ain't too bad) :) .

Still I had hopes.

If the drive already has data on it then I am 99% sure (though could be wrong) that adjusting the partition scheme under the windows setup utility will destroy your data. Use something like Easeus partition master to create your partitions beforehand.

If you already installed Win to a single partition on the entire disk, you can try to shrink the partition:
run the command diskmgmt.msc then right-click on the partition and select shrink, and it will tell you whether it's possible. Once you have done that, you have the empty space on the disk where the linux partition manager can create a new partition.
