I have a Dell Mini 9 (1.6Ghz Atom, 1Gb DDR, 8Gb SSD) currently running XP quite happily.

I have read a couple of articles now which state that Windows 7 can run quite happily on a netbook but my only concern is how much storage space it will need. I have read that it will take up 5.5Gb?

Is this viable?

From what I have read, Microsoft want to take a real hold of the netbook market so have made Windows 7 capable of scaling to run perfectly on a netbook. Some people even claim that it seems to run smoother than XP.

I have never used Vista do don't have a disk. Any ideas on install size?

He has a 60Gb hard disk though, mine is only 8Gb! I don't mind if it only leaves me with 1Gb free space as my netbook does not have anything on it that requires a lot of space.

i've got seven (release 7000, not the beta) running on my samsung nc10, it runs way faster than xp and vista (even with all the eye candy turned on).
however, it's taking up 20gb with only the bare essential programs installed so it probably wouldn't install atall on your dell :/

Ouch.
