Windows 7 on new hard drive

My friend has asked me to install win 7 64bit for him.

His PC is running vista atm but he wants an SSD and the win 7 is an upgrade disk so it wouldn't technically be an upgrade, the old drives going in for storage so vista will be wiped

Would there be any problems installing from the upgrade disk to a new SSD?

You can do a clean install to a blank HDD/SSD using Upgrade Media. You will just have to use the registry hack or double-install trick. Loads of info on the Interwebs, so Google it.

Microsoft recommends the double-install trick and is perfectly valid as long as 1: You have a previous legal copy of Windows [which you do] and 2: You no longer use the previous copy of Windows anywhere else.

This worked for me:

All it takes is to change a number in the registry, type a simple command, reboot and activate windows using your upgrade key.

The registry hack does not always work for some people. But it is well worth trying before you try the second install.
