Windows 7 on Pentium D, good idea?

I have a few years old Dell PC with an Intel Pentium D, 2 GB of RAM and an ATI x600 graphics card in it. It has Windows XP at the moment. Would it be wise to install Windows 7 on it, or is it better to stick with XP when considering performance?

that's fine. cpu power really isn't that important.

Yup will be just fine. People are running it on netbooks with single core atoms!

It will be fine.

I'm running it on an ASUS EeeBox which is a 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom with 1GB RAM and it's running Windows 7 Media Center hooked up to my HDTV. I'm not going to be playing any HD content through it but it's fine for standard stuff and the likes of iPlayer.

Installed 7 on my parents PC, its got a AMD athlon 3200 2.2ghz and 1GB of DRR 400 Ram :rolleyes:

But it runs great! no slower than Xp used to run on it.
