I have a few years old Dell PC with an Intel Pentium D, 2 GB of RAM and an ATI x600 graphics card in it. It has Windows XP at the moment. Would it be wise to install Windows 7 on it, or is it better to stick with XP when considering performance?

It will be fine.

I'm running it on an ASUS EeeBox which is a 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom with 1GB RAM and it's running Windows 7 Media Center hooked up to my HDTV. I'm not going to be playing any HD content through it but it's fine for standard stuff and the likes of iPlayer.

Installed 7 on my parents PC, its got a AMD athlon 3200 2.2ghz and 1GB of DRR 400 Ram  But it runs great! no slower than Xp used to run on it.
