Ok so i thought i'd be clever and put w7 on a 20gb partition. Keep it separated like.

But i can't install ANY games, unaware to me is that games install quite differently on w7 than XP.

Is there a way round this? :p

if W7 is on a 20gb partition that's part of a bigger drive then you can use the disk management tool to resize the partition :)

Start - Type "computer management" into the search box, open that then select disk management from the MMC that loads. In here you can shrink and extend partitions including the windows partition which is very useful (maybe shrink another partition on the same drive first, then extend the W7 partition into that unpartitioned space). A welcomed addition to the old disk management util in XP

It won't let me extend OS partition? I shrank the First hardrive by 50gb and now have that spare but still can't extend OS :/

The free space must be adjacent to the partition that you want to grow. In this case, D:\ is in the way.

You could copy the contents of D:\ to G:\ ( 222 GB free? ),
remove D:\,
grow C:\ to desired size,
recreate D:\ in the remaining space,
copy back to D:\ from G:\

There's things installed like steam/spotify etc. I assume these won't work after bein thrown around etc?

Windows 7 installs games on C: no matter what you do. Annoying.

Really?. I had no idea!!. Why on earth is that?. Can you not just specify another drive during the install process?.

I have Vista installed on a 36Gb Raptor and I install all of my games to a separate 500Gb WD SATA drive. I'm going to be upgrading soon to W7 and had the idea of getting an SSD of about 40-60Gb in size to install W7 OS and then continue installing my games to my 500Gb "F" drive. So is that not possible?.

What about specifying what drive applications are installed to, can you do that?.

Apologies for the thread hijack of sorts.

You can install them on another partition/drive yea but for some reason parts of the game have to be installed onto C:

If you extract anything it goes into your temp folder too, which is located on C:

There's no reason why they shouldn't. After all is done, D:\ will still be D:\ and the programs won't know the difference.

Unless something is trying to access its file on D:\, while operations are ongoing.
