OK wondering if anyone can shed some light on this

I'm using a computer at my parent's house, windows 7 installed, was previously using a small asics keyboard, plugged in a larger microsoft keyboard

problem is the password only works if I type it on the old keyboard

it doesn't involve any fancy characters, it is simply a string of random lowercase letters and numbers... I have both keyboards plugged in, can bring up notepad and type the password out with each keyboard... the exact same string of characters/numbers is typed... then I go to lock the computer and only the old keyboard can be used to enter the password correctly???

second issue - if the computer has been left for a while and has locked itself then I can't log in with the password - I have to press switch user then enter the password

any ideas why this is happening? I'm more curious than anything as I can presumably change the password using a combination of the old keyboard and new keyboard.

numlock is turned off, it does have numbers over some of the characters for use when numlock is turned on.... but tis definitely turned off an typing in notepad both keyboards type the password out as expected

only time i have seen it is when the keys have num lock on and they have numbers over them.

try switching user and redoing the username and and make sure the password looks right in that field.
