Hi

I am having an issue with my work laptop - windows 7 pro (32 bit)

While working with files or folders within C:\ I am unable to zip either the files/folders in C:\ using both windows built in send to > compressed (zipped) folder or WinZip's own context menu options
The error message shown when using the zip options was "error: You are trying to create a new Zip file on a disk that is read-only"
After that I went into c:\ properties > security and for my user I edited permissions to give full control (logged off and back on)
Trying the same again now gives this error:

"file not found or no read permission"

I am sure it is a permissions thing for C: as if I am in a folder below C: i.e. C:\temp\test then I can zip up no problem the test folder

Any ideas on what I can try next?

Thanks, Neill

Have you tried running Winzip as administrator?

I generally try to avoid unzipping files to the root of the C drive as they have a habit of splattering files everywhere.

Don't think windows allows creation of files in the c drive now, just folders. Open winzip and create the zip file elsewhere on the drive and add files from c drive to the zip archive.

Hi

Thanks for the replies, as suggested I have managed a workaround by not using the C:\ root

Mainly just using it due to habit from how I worked with XP

Thanks all
