Hi all recently went to windows 7, but noticed that it powers down my Idle hard drive when not in use. I have 2 Hard drives, one Western Digital Caviar Blue 250GB (boot drive) and one Caviar 500 GB (data drive).

The data drive is normally the idle drive and 7 keeps powering it down untill i go to access a file then it spins back up. I dont really like this and was wondering were in the powers options in control panel can i disable this option? Ive also disabled sleep mode as well.

Thanks :)

Within the power options, click onto the plan that you're currently running and then within there click on the "Change advanced power settings".

Within there should be an option to stop the hard disks powering down with inactivity.

Hi guys thanks for the reply.

I did that but didnt see any option to disable this, it only has a setting to change the number of mins before it powers down not to disable? Unless if im doing something wrong?

Thanks
