On all over versions of windows the ultimate version never dithered that much from the premium version in my opinion except the price ....... is this true for windows 7 64 bit? it would seem i need a 64 bit version don't need for business

so premium or ultimate ???

any advice help welcome Webb

There is a chart on the microsoft site which shows the different features, if you dont / wont use the ultimate features then there's no point spending the extra cash.

EDIT:

Hmm removed ms link as it lets you purchase there, look for windows 7 feature comparison, sure you will find it.

If you have to ask, get Home Premium.

if u don't ask u will never learn ??? and i resent your attitude are we all here to help each other?, or are you just trying to show off ...... how much you know more than me ? .... hope not because i value help here :p

What attitude? Let's re-word it. "If you don't know why you need Ultimate, you don't need it. Therefore buy Home Premium." Ultimate has a load of business and professional features basically for advanced networking and security, which unless you have a specific need for, you don't want to waste money on.

I don't think your quite brusque reply was warranted really...

I was hoping I wouldn't need a smiley on the end of my last post. Evidently I was wrong! ;)

In short if you don't know what makes Ultimate different and more expensive, there is a very, very good chance that is because you don't need any of its features.

You have been given links on the differences between the Windows 7 editions. If you still aren't any more illuminated - get Home Premium.

Jumping down the throat of a well respected contributor to the forum wasn't a good start webb but lets all calm down and be pals now :)

We do get Windows 7 threads a lot and to be fair it is a little like groundhog day at least once a week where it's the same question over and over. We really do need a Windows 7 sticky thread for a while but that was no excuse to take it out on you. Shame on you SiriusB, That's it Nathan is now my prefered source of impecible information once more!! :)

id want nothing more my friend all i ever wanted was advise and have found lots here and have spent a lot of money here too from that advice, well at OC shop witch i assumes sponsors this forum, and i can see how been asked the same thing time over and over again could send u over the edge now and then ..... and i do try to research before i ask questions

but some things i know nothing about, but i shouldn't ever be looked down on for that, or pitied those with the wealth should use it wisely or hold there tong including me

To be fair, webb, if you ask "what's the difference" after you totally didn't bother to read any of the links provided, how much more help can we give to you?

My post really was in jest. There was a smiley and everything! :p <-- see!

You asked what's the difference. You got the links. Only you can decide if those features are worth the extra money. Do you need advanced networking and security for use in a business environment? Encryption? No? Then get Home Premium. :)

I will apologise if I seemed I was taking anything out on you webb. However, it is only courtesy that you read the information given before asking the same question again! If you would like more information on a specific feature of Ultimate, please ask.

@Halfmad: I didn't realise you were a fan. Sorry if I let you down. :( *sniff*

ended up getting windows 7 home premium 64 bit for a steal on a popular online auction site :) ...... thats if it ever turns up :D

but now realize the windows XP mode, is not included in this version only pro and ultimate! ...... and yes i know should have checked first, assumed it was across the board, is there a way around this ? guessing not, but it is a separate download ?

if not can i still run XP Pro 32 bit on the same HDD as win 7 64 bit ? or will i have keep on separate HDD's
