Ive been hearing that I can preorder Windows 7 for a real cheap price. Am I missing out on something here because I can't find any preorder deals on Overclockers for udner £50. I don't want to disaid or aid other sellers on this forums (as it is an overclockers forum), but is it still possible to preorder Windows 7 for a cheap price, and will overclockers be selling the preorder price of £49.99?

see the ms store is up to £78 for hp now

to quote/paraphrase amazon "to no great surprise the limited stocks of the £49 15-day Win7E offer sold out within a couple of hours"

Looks to me very much like a publicity stunt as the its clear that there could have been no expectation that the offer last until the end of the special offer period.

Problem for MS is that many people like me now see £45 (what Amazon were selling at) is the price point for win7. Had they been in stock when I looked yesterday afternoon I may well have bought 3 copies .... but now its upto £80 I'm thinking that XP is actually fine for me!

You can still pre order from other places, considering I ordered it at 11:00 this morning for £44.97.

I've not got the money to pre-order yet, so i'll be doing so sometime near the end of the month or at the start of August.

If HP is any more than £49.99 then i'll be pirating it. If Microsoft can't allocate enough stock to keep up their end of the deal then I ain't paying them for it.

Currently it just stinks of a crap publicity stunt.

Yeh, I have ordered 2 copies of HP, 1 for me and another for my 9 year olds laptop. Ordered them from 2 different places, be interesting to see which of them if any take the money before they have it to ship. Naughty naughty if they do!

I don't believe they take the money from your account untill just before they send it out. At least the place I pre ordered from said they wouldn't.

yes you do as they wont take the money for pre orders until shipment so get in there and order. The site with stock offering it at £45/90 even says under description your card wont be charged till dispatch.

yes it is a publicity stunt and always has been. What end of the deal. It has always been advertised as limit stock and they have even said what the rrp prices will be later on.

One place I ordered from reserved the funds, I'm trying to cancel that place right now as that's not convienient to me at all right now but it's one of these email to cancel jobbies!

They've given two dates - a start and a finish.

It should have said "Preorders start 16th July, we have limited stock and then the price will go up".

Instead they give the impression you can get it for £49.99 for longer than a few hours.

yo can still get it now and no limited stock means exactly that limited stock. Prices will go up in august regardless if that stock has not been used p. It's not misleading and hey have done exactly what they said hey have.

If you pre order you are not charged until delivery of the item. I'd get your order in now to avoid any price rises. This is a limited time offer and will run out.

But the prices have already started to go up, and it's nowhere near the date concerned.

Whatever you think, I think it's intentionally misleading. They've put up two dates and said it's "limited stock" but I would expect them to be able to cover more than a few hours before the price hikes start.

Microsoft would have known this would happen, but they still pushed ahead by marketing it as "limited time" rather than "limited copies".

This is the kind of thing the EU should be fining them for, not the IE stuff.

[Edit] I'll place the order today, but I still stand by what I said - it's intentionally misleading.

.

a) companies can do what they want. I expect teh ones offering HP at £70 are the special pre-order. The ones offering at over a £100 are the august special pr-order prices. might as well start offering it now as they haven't got any of eh July special ofers left.

I don't see how you could think it is misleading at all. they have done exactly what they said they would.

ANd it's more than a few hours, it's still available now.
