I have had my copy of Win7 Proffesional (Running 64bit  )for 3 days now and i've got a USB wireless adaptor which i use to connect to the internet. The model is Asus WL-169gE 125mbps wireless adaptor. I had troubles when i used windows Vista 64bit & 32bit but i got drivers for those and it worked fine after that.

I tried all the drivers i can find for it and none of them will let me connect to the internet. Anyone know where i can find some that may work?

I've just ordered a 10m long Ethernet cable incase i cant find a solution using my wireless adaptor. I plan to move my Netgear DGN2000 Modem Router upstairs and plug the ethernet into the back and then into my pc (As a last resort as i dont really want to move it upstairs.)

Also is anyone using windows 7 RC that used a wireless adaptor that worked?

Help much appreciated, thanks.

Yes no internet means i cant use windows update, I'm running brand new Desktop that i made using components i bought from OCUK. I haven't tried Wired connection because i've not got a long enough ethernet cable to reach my room, which is why i've ordered a 10m long ethernet cable.

I had the same problem with vista except i installed Drivers for Vista 64bit and then i was able to just find my router on the list of networks in range using windows and connected A-ok.

I tried these drivers with win7 but cant seem to pickup any networks at all. I restarted Router a few times to see if that worked too but still nothing.

I'm having the same problem with my Thomson 330 modem, Vista drivers won't run on Win 7, luckily i'm using a dual boot system with XP Pro.:(

To get round this head ache I bought a network "converter" - Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP - It does the wireless side so I just plug a wired connection into my PC from it. There are 4 ports on it, so say I have a mates PC round to fix, I just plug it in to one of the spare network ports on that.

Hmm, do you just connect an ethernet from this to your pc and it works as a wireless adapter? how exactly will it connect to my Router? do you set it up like a normal wireless adapter to connect through windows?

You configure the adapter to work as a wireless client.
To all intents and purposes you could be connected to the router with a cable - your machine isn't aware there's anything wireless going on at all.

Yeh, as far as you're PC (or anything plugged into it's 4 network ports) is concerned it's got a wired LAN connection. Device has a web interface which shows you the available wireless networks (it connects wirelessly to your router), you tell it which and the key, and it connects. Think of it a wireless pass thru. :)

Not good if you do lots of data transfer between PCs in your house but then wireless isn't full stop. I don't though these days, just t'internet. I had too much of a head ache a while ago trying to find a card or something to get for the PC to connect wirelessly and making sure they had 64bit drivers. Bloody useful it is too as I said for quickly connecting others PCs!

Mate had problems with an Apple mini he uses on his tv in his lounge and wireless dropping lots so he got one of these. Been handy for connecting his bluray player to the net too which only has a wired network option and other wise would never been connected online for updates and extra disc features. Could use it on say an Xbox too and save yourself buying a wireless dongle for it.

I love it. Can you tell? ;)

Sounds like a great product, thanks for the info. I'll try get my hands on one and hope that it works.

buy a router, it's much better and safer than connecting directly to a modem.

no driver needed, just ethernet/networkcard driver :)

Hmm got my Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP wireless converter and the disc that sets it all up wont allow me to install it on Windows 7  This is getting to the point of retarded, i thought it was supposed to be more "Compatible" than Vista yet it seems worse.

<deletes something stupid she said>

Read the manual - does it not have a default IP? You just config it through that in your web browsers. So long since I set mine up!

Never used a CD tho :)

I managed to get the buffalo wireless converter working now ;) thanks. I set it up on a pc with vista and then it seems to keep the connection to the router I'm using when i switched it to my win7 pc.

Although i still cant manage to get to the IP addy that's in the manual.

Works great apart from that! Ta for the help.

You'll probably need to manually set your machine's network card to one that's in the same subnet as what the manual gives if your network uses a different range.
