I am choosing between these two versions. I am eligable for a student discount so there is only a £15 price differential.

Is there any reason why i should bother going for the ultimate?

the differences as far as i am aware is that ultimate allows you to switch between 32 languages and use bitlocker.

I will only be using Engish! The computer is only for home use, is there any reason i would want to use bitlocker?

also i presume ultimate takes up more hd space?

if you wont use bitlocker and language just get pro thats what ive got if you dont use it wots the point in buying it spend the 15 pounds on somthing you will use

Bitlocker to Go is worth the 15 quid if you think you'd ever use it. It is very good and is backward compatible with XP and Vista, albeit read-only.

I have Home Premium at home but I wish I'd bought Pro. Pro comes with convenient tools to do things that you can only do manually editing the registry in HP. Geeky stuff though, not something Joe Average would miss.

...not something Joe Average would miss.

This is why i'll pretty much always say "if you dont know why you need ultimate, then you don't need ultimate". Same goes here, but taking into account the £15 price difference, if you want to explore it and might use any of the extra enterprise (and language) features offered over pro, then it's probably worth the extra few :p

I know quite a few people who run domains at home, at least just so they can experiment and learn, also to test things out etc. Then again, I do know a lot of techie's lol

I run a domain at home. But given the number of people who use Windows, those with their own domain are very, very much in the minority.

shhhhhh

I remember choosing pro over home for a lot of reasons. But now I can't actually remember what the benefits were, and as such dont know if im using any of them. Still, never have liked the home version of anything after i bought xp home.....Ultimate had nothing I would use, and on the pre order i got ultimate wasnt on it at that point in time.

Yeah I heard about this with Vista HP - requires a bit of fiddling iirc. I assume it works on Windows 7 too. Though I imagine most people who know what RDP is will go for Pro anyway!

Oh nice. Never really looked into myself, obviously. I always get Pro so it has never really been a concern! :p

I shall note it for future reference. :)
