Ive just recived a email asking me why my mates new copy of windows 7 reads on 3gb usable. his running 8gig of ram. i think his bought the 32 version of windows. Is there any way of sorting this out where it will use all the ram?

As you said it could be the 32bit version of Win7 he has, if he bought the retail version of win7 then he should have both 32bit and the 64bit disks.

I believe win 7 (and vista) key's will work on both 32 and 64bit versions so theoretically he would only need to get the 64bit media....I think

the same key will work, just get a copy of the ISO for the same version of OS but in the 64BIT Falvour, install it with the 32bit key.

can anyone confirm this. if so then i will use this when i reinstall as i accidently bought 32bit!!

I can confirm this is the case. You just need 64bit media (if you get retail, you can rip the ISO and change it into an OEM disc by editing the ei.cfg file in the sources directory). Editing the ei.cfg file also lets you change a Ultimate/Pro disc into a Home Premium disc and vice versa.
