Finished downloading this yesterday but was hesitant about using it.

Its all extracted and that, and when i click on the icon it asks :-

-Check for compatibilty online
-Install now

Checking for compatibilty is epic fail because the tool isnt even out.

Will the install now button install windows over my current OS or do i actually have to burn it to a disc, which i currently have none of.

What can i expect out of it for those who have had the beta?

Currently running XP SP3 'Vienna Edition' which i just dont like, its like a vista wannabe with awful 'windows 7 dock' and 'vienna navigator' which i cant disable unless i close them every time i logon,

In short, i dont like what im running but it runs ok.

Just wondering if i bother with a fresh install (i wont lose anything important, will just have to reinstall a few drivers and programs), will i enjoy using it?

Only got the 32bit download.

Currently running :-
2.8ghz PentiumD crap-cessor
2gig OCZ Platinum RAM
XFX HD 4830
and everything else

BurnW7 to a bootable disc. It wants a fresh install apparently. Suprisingly there's quite few W7 drivers out there which is good new (ATI, Creative etc). I'm just freeing up an old hard drive at the mo and will take the plunge.

I can only find the extracted folder for some reason and not the iso that would need to be burned, firefox>tools>downloads>windows7 file, wont let me click 'open containing folder' so all ive got is a folder on my desktop with all the setup files etc

Yeah the ISO file would be easier, then burn it to a disc using nero or if you dont have something like that ImgBurn is good and free.

You can either install it over your current OS or alongside and do a dual boot which is probably advisable as this may not be the final release but its up to you.

I dont know how to dual boot and/or create hard drive partitions unfortunately.

Do you mean when i boot it from the disc and it asks what drive i want to install it on, i select whatever is underneath my current hard drive?

Im sure it asks if i want to create a new partition or format my current drive.

Would i be able to remove this partition at a later date?

Also, does dual booting mean i can select which OS to use when i turn the pc on or does it mean that ill be running windows 7 with my XP programs in a folder or something?

There are a couple of good boot managers you can get that will help if you get problems.

I have XP, Vista 32 and Win7 [7077, not RC yet, although I do have the ISO] on my machine, still haven't got round to putting Ubuntu 64 back on there though, as, er Win7 is actually serving me really well

P4D with 2Gb RAM should be fine for it BTW - I can get it to run happily as a VM on a Pentium Dual Core with 4Gb of RAM and four other VMs in ESX, with 512Mb assigned to it so similar spec on real hardware should be just as usable.
