I'm one of those people still busily running windows XP. But recently I effectively replaced my computer*, and am now wondering if it's worth switching to 7 before I get everything too well set up in XP.
I'm all for the more modern operating system and specifically the DX11 support (My graphics card supports it and is currently a bit bored running DX9), but I have concerns about compatibility that won't stop nagging at me. Most software I use is 7 compatible, but as an example I have older games that don't list 7 or even vista in some cases. Will they be able to run or are they a dead loss?
I've done a lot of looking around on google for information, but there's nothing quite like peoples actual experiences when it comes to stuff like this. I can get it at the student pricing so it's not a vast sum of money. Any advice would be very much appreciated!
*If you're interested in the story, I bought myself a new graphics card and a power supply that could handle it, all was well, and then a month later my motherboard died of old age. So I now have a brand new case, motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card, disk drive (As the old one had the wrong connector for the motherboard), and power supply. It was an expensive month.
