windows 7 release date ?

People think its 2009 but it wont be as MS wont say as it still stick as 2010 so date of release still unknown as it still lots of work to do before it come out. You have to wait and see when the press release from Microsoft.

i'm still (and always have been) for a September/november 2009 launch :)

i mean, we're at RC1 in May. what's left to do?

The RC is pretty good to be honest, I have been using it as a secondary machine at work, next week I am moving my primary to Windows 7 RC, from the current state I would guess they are on target for a October/November RTM.

What's this 'lots of work'? It's Release Candidate. That means done, finished, feature complete. There is nothing left to do. The only thing stopping them releasing that build are any *major* bugs.

Build up hype, probably

Copy n' paste Vista launch. Life changing OS; you'll wonder how you managed without it; the new standard in OS; blows all other OS's out of the water. When its nothing more than a clunky XP and MS are a lame duck.

If it wasn't for gaming windows would be taking space at the local landfil.

Even if I didn't play PC games, I'd still prefer to use Windows. OSX doesn't really impress me and Linux is more hassle than it's worth.

Linux isnt any hassle anymore. less so than windows now.
I'm testing w7 and its so bloated with crap and such a fuss. I hate the Aero interface with a passion.

That's funny because I just installed Ubuntu the other day and I had to go through some bizarre terminal and type in a load of nonsense just to get my Xfi soundcard to work! In comparison, in Windows I just fire up the setup.exe and after clicking next a few times the drivers are installed and ready to go. Linux is a lot more hassle in comparison.

Eh? Ubuntu is great I'll give you that but I dont see anywhere where Windows isnt easier to use.

Linux is still a pain in the backside by comparison and to your casual non technical surfer / emailer it is simply not an option.

What's wrong with the aero interface? I find it quite sleek. Besides, if you don't like it, you can disable it.

Thats right, Linux is responsible for your Sound card OEM not making drivers for their OS??

I got the drivers from the Creative website. It was just the way I had to go about installing them! Linux badly needs a simple .exe type installation rather than terminal windows with techy commands.
