hey guys my mate is having problems with windows 7 and im trying to get him some help and you guys will probably have a fair idea.

basically his bios is set for 400x7 on a E6300 which ends up as 2.8

in windows 7 and cpu-z it shows his bus as 266x7 which is the default 1.8

ive told him to check his bios over and over for the usual speedstep eist and stuff which he is adamant is all turned off.

im stumped tbh as i walked him through his first overclock on windows xp and everything worked and reported fine until windows 7 was put on a few days ago.

ok a few updates lads

running orthos did not change the bus speed under cpu-z so it cant be speedstep or anything.

i have asked him to try changing ram timings and cpu-z updates that fine but still refuses to update the FSB changes

im gonna get him to try to reset the bios, windows 7 was installed when he had his overclock settingson by the way if that would make a difference, i normaly reset them to default before a format.

all help is appreciated lads :)

ok he said it was fixed by first resetting the bios to optimized defaults then removing both the battery and power cord for around 10-15 mins.

after that he boted back into the bios and set his proper overclocked settings and both win 7 and cpu-z are reporting correct cpu speeds.

i dont know if it makes a difference but i never ever install with overclocked settings.better to load optimized defaults when you install fresh windows copies
