Right then, as the title says, my pc started no longer wanting to shut down, and instead will always restart. I have performed clean installs to see if that fixes the problem...nothing.
I have updated drivers etc...nothing
I have disabled restart on system failure, nothing.

It just seems to power down for seconds and then boot up again.

Specs are as follows:
Windows 7 64 bit
CPU: i7 950
Mobo: p6x58d-e
Ram: 6gb Corsair Domintor -GT
GPU: 5850
PSU: xfx 750

Iv had this problem for 6 bloody months! I STILL havent found a solution, it only started occurring after I changed my case to Antec 902. I contacted Antec, and they asked me to test a different power switch so thats what ill be doing within the next few days.
Trust me though, I have TRIED EVERYTHING regarding this issue, everything except updating my BIOS. Wake On Lan wasnt the cause either.

Stroma, Ill tell you now, its a very frustrating problem but you'll probably have to get used to it unless your problem has a simple solution such as removing the network card or something along those lines.

The only way I manage to keep the PC off is by pressing the power supply switch straight after it powers down.

Let me know if you find a solution though, Im pretty sure its my case causing it, a spark or short circuit somewhere.

I've heard of this problem before.
Sometimes it can be resolved by resetting the BIOS, either via the jumper method or by removing the battery for 10 minutes.

Haha! welcome to my world buddy, Iv gone through practically all the tests there are. Iv switched my power switch with my reset switch, but Im thinking there might be a short circuit coming from my Front I/O panel on my case.

Stroma, It must have started occurring after you added or changed something... any ideas?

usually just a case off popping it out, some motherboards have a clip securing it which has to be taken off. but it should be easily removed once you locate it

Also check the reliability monitor in windows 7 see if anything has been causing problems.
andy.

Wapcatlet THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! After 6 months of frustration, you sorted my problem within 2 hours!!! You have my utmost respect and appreciation!!

Yeah, it was exactly as you described, cheers for the help mate, thanks to Thekwango aswell.

I would have NEVER suspected the battery to be the cause of all these problems.

Just to note

Removing the battery is actually just one of the ways of re setting the BIOS/clearing CMOS. They normally last years and only need to be changed very rarely :)

That's great news!
I am surprised that my suggestion worked for 2 people here. I was half expecting the problems to be related to the PSU or a dodgy motherboard.
