Hi, sorting out an older Laptop for my daughter with Win7 Home Premium installed.

Has a partitioned HD with C: = 150GB / D: = 315GB

I keep a back up off all my photos all over the place (just in case) various Laptops / Google Photos and External HD.

I would like to be able to password the D HD so she cannot 'accidentally' mess / delete them.

What is out there to enable me to do that.

I have read about Bitlocker, but I do not think that is available for Win 7 Home

Thank you

Won't user permissions do what you want?

Assuming you are using different logins change the permissions for the folders in question so she can't do anything to them. You can access the permissions by right-clicking on a folder, selecting Properties, and then going to the Security tab.

When you're logged in as you (the admin user) it's as simple as right clicking the folder(s), going to Properties -> Security and ensuring that only your username is ticked as having permission to access/modify the files. Then her user will not be able to do a thing to them.

P.S. keep backups anyway!
