Windows 7 RTM

Hi guy's, I have a legitimate copy of windows 7 ultimate RTM and a key code which I am using.
Earlier I bought a serial from an american site, for my media centre. Will this activate my version of windows, or have I messed up? Is it region specific?

It is not region specific as far as I am aware.

If you have a valid license, why did you buy another? And did you not get any media with your purchase. I was not aware you could just buy serials without any accompanying discs etc.
