Hi,i recently did a clean install on my xp machine with windows 7 ultimate 32-bit.Connect my t-mobile dongle and have been browsing a few sites,i have now noticed that there is a process in the task manager called search indexing.exe that is constantly running at around 8-15% cpu load and hasn't stop for some time.

I installed msn messenger, mail and a few other windows live programs and thats it.

I have not used windows update,is there a way to stop it keep using cpu load?

I always turn it off for this very reason but searches can take a little longer as a result.

If you type services.msc into the search line and hit enter you will see a window appear showing all the services running on your machine. From here look for WSearch and double click on it..Then stop the service and set the startup type to 'disabled'. Job done ;)

It basically catalogues all the stuff on your HDD so if you need to search for something, then the o/s knows where it is quickly without having to scan the whole HDD.
