OK, so I ran into a couple of problems using the SFC (not too difficult to overcome, but annoying none the less) and I was wondering. Is there a better utility to use than SFC for repairing a windows boot drive? (this is somebody elses drive in my computer so I'm using offwindir)

Well I think I figured out the complications with SFC. The persons computer I'm fixing has done something special. I don't know how, but there is a windows setup and a window7 installation active as OS's available to boot from on the hard disk. If I select windows 7 everything works fine. The other is corrupt and constantly loads the setup options. Need to go in and change the OS boot prio and then delete the corrupt 'windows setup' bootable option.

The best advice is not to offer to fix someone's computer if you don't 100% know what you're doing.

I know it's harsh, but the questions you're asking suggest you're not familiar with the basics.

Well I solved the problem... I was posting my solution. The problem was that the user had managed to install windows twice, but not fully completed the overwriting version. It creates lot's of problems and they hadn't told me they had attempted to do this.
