Windows 7 SP1 on the way...

With Windows 7 out the door we already know Microsoft immediately starts work on the servicing of Windows 7. Engineers are now hard at work at creating hot fixes for application compatibility and ironing out any bug reports they receive. The same process occurs for every version of Windows once it has been classed released to manufacturing (RTM).

Notorious for leaking Windows 7 builds during the beta phase, Wzor has provided some early information on the Windows 7 SP1 beta. According to Wzor a beta of Windows 7 SP1 will be released in January 2010 and the schedule is two beta releases and two release candidate releases. Wzor believes SP1 will be ready for OEMs during the Summer months (June/July/August) of 2010 with end users applying the update in the Autumn (September/October/November).

Wzor has released an image of what it claims to be an internal folder structure for the SP1 builds of Windows 7. If Wzor's reports are accurate then we could see a beta of Windows 7 SP1 debut to the public around the same time as CES next year.

The whole "wait until SP1" thing (from the article) is a bit of a red herring, as a service pack is mainly a roll up of all the preceding updates delivered in one package.

If you keep on top of the patches and install them when they become available through Automatic Updates (which you should be doing anyway) then the final SP1 download for your system will be quite small when it is finally released.

Well I have 2 copies of Win 7 sitting on the shelf, waiting until I build a couple of new computers next year!
Hope I don't get hit with a massive SP as soon as they are built.

Yes Microsoft usual take it time to build up SP1 as it will come out next year - same as Vista when it released Jan 2007 and then SP1 in April 2008 and then SP2 in June 2009 so SP1 final release for W7 will come out Q4 2010, MS just want to make sure it ready to roll out in time - dont want to hurry and yes W7 just came out on 22nd October that much early for Service Pack to be release.

It always changing the date and when - give MS team to build up time for service pack 1 anyway just now Windows 7 seem so cool..
