Hey guys.. loving my windows 7 installation (64bit 7077 build) on my main pc atm... im just wondering how does win 7 perform on lesser systems such as the small notebooks with only 1GB of ram etc..

let us know you're experience with it !

cheers

256mb ram vista?! that must have been horrible lol..

by this topic i mean how low can u go spec/ram wise while still maintaining a decent experience. not just how low in general :P

I'm currently running it on a Dell mini 9 (Atom CPU) 2Gb RAM in a 10Gb partition. Performs as well if not better than XP on the same hardware.

Win7 runs great on 1gb RAM, i had it running on a mchine with the following spec:-

AMD Athlon64 3400+
1GB DDR400
512MB 7600GT

Had it running with Vista and it was very very bad (imho) but with Win7 the difference is Night and Day, only thing i was running on it was WoW and had no problems at all.

Mobile Centrino 1.7ghz, 40gig 5400rpm drive, boggo integrated display card.

Run it under 1GB and 2GB, and observably miles better on bootup, general windows work and ie usage than Vista it had installed.

In my experience, Windows 7 runs much better than Vista and about on a par with XP on older machines. When you take into account how old some of the XP installs are, you should see a decent performance increase.

Just a shame old hardware is used on new OS like Win7.

pointless exercise that can't take advantage of the main reasons to use Windows 7, superfetch & taskbar previews etc

I'm going to try Windows 7 on my Dell Latitude D420 with a 1.2ghz single-core CPU, 1.5GB RAM and 30GB HDD tonight.

I'll report back with my findings :) I think the CPU is going to a problem.

But XP is like swiss cheese nowadays when it comes to security. If W7 turns out to be on par with XP for performance on old machines then I can imagine this being a half popular "interim upgrade" for certain users.

Reckon you could just about slip under the bar with that setup!
