Winodws seems to hang on the splash screen for about 20-30 seconds these days and it's becoming quite annoying. Once it's booted up, all is fine. So never really bothered until now.

I was thinking I could rewrite the MBR?

I haven't tried startup repair, however I doubt it would find any problems.

I don't think CHKDSK would make a difference either.

Anyone had this same issue and successfully resolved it?

Cheers.

Anything in the Event Log? I find Windows 7 quite good with stuff like this as it lists things that are slowing down (taking to long) to act.

Another thing to try is to untick all startup items and see if it loads faster, if it does, you can then narrow the search down to a startup entry. Start > Run > msconfig and click the "startup" tab.

Have you any mapped network drives or network printers? They can cause a slow down at startup whilst it connects, or timesout if for example the NAS/Server is turned off.

Hope that helps.

Well "Firegod" You were indeed correct. It was a startup item. I can't believe I overlooked this. I just never thought it would cause a hang of 30 seconds, especially when I have two ssd's in raid0.

I never bothered to eliminate the problem, just disabled a load of them I never needed.

Thanks again, saved me some time faffing around for half a day!
