Personally I kind of like the start menu in 10 once you get it configured to your usage - remove pretty much everything (a bit of a chore as for some reason MS hasn't implemented proper group management, etc.) and turn on any options to minimise what is on there (also enabling the extra tile can be useful - the option is in the main control panel) and then start putting stuff on there for how you use the OS and you might be surprised how useful it is over the start menu in 7 when configured in a way that makes sense to you rather than the poorly thought out, highly idealistic, default setup.
