Hi all just a quick question regarding windows 7.
Bought a new netbook yesterday and its full of the manufactorers crap.
Now i have no windows disc so cant do a lot, Obviously i have the windows key on the machine.
Can i get hold of any windows 7 disc (like you could vista) and install it off there then use my windows key??

Thanks

Yeah i know that but with Vista you get all versions on one disc and choose which one you want IE pro or ultimate and enter the key.
What i want to know is it the same with Windows 7, Or do you have to get individual discs for each option???

Thanks

Yes, all versions come on the one disk and there is no OEM, retail discs as such. So just grab a windows 7 disc and stick your key in either during install, or after :)

Thats what i wanted to know thanks. Just need to get my hands on a Windows disc now lol.

I have an retail full version of Win 7 Pro, but during the setup, I was inly given the option of Pro. Where are they other versions of 7, and how do you access them please.

What key is this you are talking about?

The one on the bottom of the Starter machine will be for Starter and will only work for Starter. if you have another key lying about then yes download the appropriate OEM or Retail disc depending where you got it. Though they're aren't many great places to download the media legally.

Extract all the files of the disc and go into the sources folder and delete ei.cfg

Then use vlite to recreate the disc, bootable and all. :)

Yes the key on the bottom of the machine. I know it will be for windows starter only, My main point is to remove all of the crap that the manufactorer has loaded that is not needed.
Just wanting to get hold of a disc to do it all.

I believe you will need to download the Starter edition seperately. I have used Windows 7 discs which allow you to see all versions of Windows 7 and none have given an option to install Starter. I assume this is because you can't get Starter at retail and always comes through OEM machines. I'm putting money on a 'dodgy' download in order to do what you wish.

Hmm didn't really want to look at downloading it but i guess i have no other option.
Just out of curiosity, Would home premium work aswell on a netbook?

Home premium would work fine on a netbook. Chances are the graphics can handle the Aero interface and being able to change your wallpaper offically is handy. :)

Well yeah i didn't realise you cant change your wallpaper till i had a look round after i bought the netbook.
Some of the other features i won't need but not to be able to change your wallpaper what an idea lol.

Thanks for the help maybe worth the upgrade in a month or two..
