Windows 7 taking 2 hours + to install. is this right?

it can take a while although ive not had an install come close to 2 hours yet?

Its possible your HDD is either rubbish/slow or failing? I would run a HD Tune on it to check for issues. Also possible your CD drive (if IDE) could be terrible giving rubbish load times from the disc?

2 hours ??? thats way too long... but @97%, may as well let it finish and see what happens, but it sounds like trouble reading the disc or writing to the HDD?

Depends entirely on the HDD used, the optical drive used, the state of said HDD/optical drive and the state of the DVD used.

To be honest, no it's not quite right, but it's not horrifically too long either.

i thought so (hdd or cd drive)

and one more thing. the cd is a 64 bit. only reason i did put in 4gb was one of the sticks is faulty so i left 2gb in. could this be a reason?

Mine took a little bit,but was closer to the hour mark than the 2 hour mark.

+ 2gb ram shouldn't stop it installing quickly, its just wwriting data from one disk to another (thats if your HDD isn't an SSD :p)

Is the HDD an old IDE 5400 or SATA 5400 rpm drive?
Can you run any HDD benchmark tests on it to find out its performance and post a screenie of the results, also try the build in windows disk checker for any faults.

Mine took about an hour and a half. My CD drive is about 6-7 years old and my Hard Drive is quite terrible.

Even on my 5400rpm IDE laptop it installed 64-bit ultimate in around 20 minutes.

But if the OS runs quick enough then I wouldn't worry about it.

vista takes me about 30 minutes on this system, no matter what I do or what drive I use
